It's not often I come across an app with a 1 star rating and think, I need to get this downloaded. Well, this is exactly what happened when I was browsing the app store and came across Chicks vs Kittens. The rating in question came with the users thoughts which pointed out that gaining any sort of enjoyment from hurling chicks at kittens and knocking them out of a tree was, well, kind of twisted! What seems twisted to some sounds pretty good fun to me, which is why I checked it out.

Chicks vs Kittens offers fun and unique gameplay which is always welcome given the thousands of games out there that are clones of each other

Chicks vs Kittens is a game that gives you control of a nest of birds and makes you work together to defend against an onslaught of moggies. The game is quite simple to start with, you collect falling leaves to built up points, these points are then cashed in to lay eggs. Once the eggs hatch they provide the ammunition needed to lay the smack down, sending the cats crashing to earth.

Each level allows you to stock up on leaves and build your points up before the first wave of cats arrive. Once you have some points you can start laying your eggs in preparation for the first wave of enemy. The cats arrive in small numbers to start with and are quite slow in climbing the tree. A quick click on your troops and they'll dive bomb the feline foes, knocking them out of the tree.

Levels are completed by surviving every wave. Once completed you're graded on a 3 star system (points are scored for each cat you know off the tree, the closer they are to the bottom, the more points you score). The games integrated into Game Center so notching up stars will help you move up the leaderboard.

the level of difficulty is well balanced ensuring anyone can pick it up and start having fun

Each level is slightly different and introduces new features such as different cats or new upgrades for your chicks. Some of the levels don't reward leaves and you must upgrade some of your chicks to get them to gather leaves for you. The differing levels and new features introduced as you progress add longevity to the game and keep you coming back to find out what the next level brings.

Chicks vs Kittens offers fun and unique gameplay which is always welcome given the thousands of games out there that are clones of each other and have nothing different to offer. The introduction of new types of chicks and cats increase the strategy involved wthin the game and you have to really start thinking on the later levels.

The cartoon graphics suit the game, characters are cute and the animations are excellent. I really liked how the developers use different caps to indicate a chicks special power. The game has 3 different scenes with 20 levels each with the promise of more levels to come in future updates. The levels are short, ideal for when you've got a couple of minutes time to kill and the level of difficulty is well balanced ensuring anyone can pick it up and start having fun.

If you enjoy games that require you to defend against waves of enemies, you should check out Chicks vs Kittens. It's cute, unique, easy to get into and challanging enough to keep you coming back and collect all those stars. Just remember, if you get a bit sad and start to feel sorry for the cats, it's just a game. No cats were actually hurt in the making of Chicks vs Kittens.
